Zhanjiang (CNS) -- The China-ASEAN Economic Development Zone (CAEDZ) was officially established Monday in Zhanjiang, Guangdong Province.
The port city of Zhanjiang has been an important trade partner since the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area was fully initiated. Bilateral trade volume reached US$430 million last year, an increase of 27.2 percent.
The local government chose the "Fenyong Development Zone for High and New Technological Industry" as the site of the CAEDZ. 46 square kilometers are available for development.
Overseas Chinese returnees from Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam and other countries now account for over 60 percent of the area's total population, creating a link with ASEAN countries.
