Linfen (CNS) -- Bone fragments discovered in front of the Nüwa Statue at Jixian, Shanxi and later reported to be the bones of the ancient royal figure are in fact still being examined and yet to be verified, experts told CNS on Sunday.

The 6,200-year-old remains underwent tests at the School of Archaeology and Museology. The ancient inscriptions by the statue are a strong indication they belong to Nüwa or a descendent of the Nüwa family.

Some members of the public argue that the "goddess bones" finding was meant to start a rumor which the township could use to its advantage in attracting tourism.

The identity and gender of the owner are yet to be confirmed, is all Yan Yamei, director of the local cultural relic authority, will say.
