Beijing (CNS) -- The China Meteorological Administration (CMA) has initiated planning for further flood control with various government departments to cope with the new rounds of torrential rain expected to last from Sunday to Thursday.
The State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters launched a high-level response order and dispatched more than 10 work teams to flood-hit regions.
The National Committee for Disaster Reduction, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Civil Affairs also engaged in command operations for regional disaster control.
The National Meteorological Center issued a heavy rain alert for six continuous days, and warned possible heavy flooding, landslides and mudflows across the southern part of the country.
Strong rainfall since Friday have brought water levels in 50 southern rivers above their warning lines, affected 18.23 million people in the region, and caused 29.9 billion yuan of economic losses, according to official statistics.
