Beijing (CNS) -- China's three major telecom operators have all started communications services on the Xisha Islands. Advanced information and communication technology shrinks the distance between the islands and the mainland as well as offering standard conveniences to locals.

A reporter from CNS learnt on June 27 that China Unicom has established three mobile base stations covering signals on three Xisha Islands and surrounding waters within 40 km.

China Mobile opened mobile base stations on six islands, offering 3G services, and secured their communications services by installing emergency response devices.

China Telecom had already established its internet center here by 2007, offering officers and soldiers stationed here access to the internet at the southernmost tip of China.

The State Council has approved the establishment of the prefectural-level city of Sansha and on June 21 decided that its government seat will be on Yongxing Island in the Xisha archipelago. The three major operators have given assurances they will offer sound communications services to this South China Sea area.
