Beijing (CNS) -- To preserve the masterpieces of painting and calligraphy created throughout Chinese history, copying and restoring are two skills regarded as essential to maintaining national cultural treasures.

An exhibition on these skills, which constitute intangible cultural heritage, and the masterpieces that have benefitted will run from June 28 to November 12 at the Ancient Painting and Calligraphy Research Center of the National Palace Museum.

The artist Feng Zhonglian spent ten years finishing a plausible copy of the painting Along the River During the Qingming Festival from Song Dynasty.

An artisan good at restoration is just like a good doctor who can cure stubborn diseases and restore the original face of the painting and calligraphy work, said expert Guo Wenlin.
