Beijing (CNS) -- The capital's meteorological authority issued a 48-hour high temperature alert Tuesday and predicted a particularly hot July this year.
High temperatures of over 35 degrees Celsius hit Beijing in the first three days of the month. The historic average for July is 31 degrees.
So far the year's highest temperature of 38 degrees Celsius was recorded on June 17.
However, the larger than average amount of rainfall in late June will continue this month, predicted Ai Wanxiu, from the China Meteorological Administration.
Rain will fall Wednesday, followed by two days of cooler weather at around 30 degrees Celsius, Wang Hua, from Beijing's weather authority, told CNS.
Wang suggested that children and the elderly should stay indoors from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to avoid sunstroke.
