Yantai (CNS) -- China's own deepwater semisubmersible drilling platform is capable of adapting itself to all sorts of marine conditions, according to the adaptation functions outlined at the launch ceremony for the "Xingwang" platform held on Tuesday.

The platform now in the making will be an upgrade capable of working above the sea to a depth of 1,500 meters and drill 7,600 downwards with a deck load of 6,000 tons.

The domestically designed platform is qualified for drilling missions in the South China Sea and is already performing well at the oil and gas field in the North Sea off Norway, known to present the most severe marine conditions in the world, said Vice President Cao Shujie, China Oilfield Services Limited (COSL).

COSL has delivered six deepwater semisubmersible drilling platforms in the last 18 months.
