美国国务院12日宣布,2012财年至今,美国受理的中国签证申请一举突破百万大关,并较上一财年同期增约43%。
Washington D.C. (CNS) -- The U.S. Department of State announced on Thursday local time that the U.S. has received more than one million visa applications from Chinese citizens so far in the 2012 fiscal year, about 43 percent up year on year.
The figure was released by the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, as well as its consulates in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu and Shenyang since October 2011.
The interview-free visa renewal service was adopted to raise efficiency, the official bulletin explains. Expanding the processing team has shortened the waiting process to around a week for visa candidates in spite of the mounting piles of applications.
The U.S. opened a new visa review office in Beijing last month and is expected to expand consulate coverage in China.
China and Mexico are the largest contributors to visa applications, and another BRICS country, Brazil, is scrambling for third place.
