Beijing (CNS) -- Crimes that threaten food safety and drug safety have rocketed since 2011 in China, and criminals are using more complicated tactics that increase the difficulty of detection, evidence collection and judicial determinations, said Sun Jungong, spokesman for the China Supreme People's Court on July 31.
Courts across the country have seen a 275 percent growth in drug crime cases and a 216 percent growth in food safety crimes since 2011.
The nation's courts are struggling to keep up, and between January and June closed 549 of the 688 cases heard involving the production and sale of bogus pharmaceuticals. During the same period, 330 cases relating to food safety hit the circuit, and 276 of those have been closed.
