Taipei (CNS) -- "When I pass away, please take my ashes to my home," this is what veterans who live in Kaohsiung City of Taiwan often tell their village head Liu Changwen.

Liu always encourages veterans to keep fit and live long, but he always keeps in mind their wishes to "return" to their hometowns on mainland.

Liu has once more undertaken a journey to take a deceased veteran's ashes home, according to report by the United Daily News on August 5.

"Each cinerary urn contains the ashes of an old soldier's entire life and carries their deep longing for their places of birth," said Liu, "so I am compelled to take them back."

During the past eight years, Liu has traveled to the provinces of Fujian, Henan, Shandong, Shaanxi, Hunan and other spots bearing heavy cinerary urns in his backpack.
