Changchun (CNS) – China's first cold-resistant high-speed Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) train came off the assembly line Tuesday at the Changchun Railway Vehicle Company, indicating a breakthrough in the country's EMU manufacturing.

Employing inert gas, polymers and heat insulation technology, the train is designed to withstand the chill in Harbin, the coldest capital city in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province.

Only 30 percent of the technology or components used in the building of the EMU train was introduced from overseas, and their cold-resistant capability ranks among the best in the world, said Dong Xiaofeng, president of the CNR Changchun Railway Vehicle Company.
