Official suspended after scrap with flight attendant

广州市越秀区委常委、武装部政委方大国日前被指殴打南航空姐一事在中国内地掀起轩然大波，记者3日从广东相关方面了解到，有关方面决定对方大国进行停职检查，方大国目前正接受进一步处理。

Guangzhou (CNS) -- A Guangzhou party official suspected of verbally and physically assaulting a flight attendant has been suspended from his post pending further investigation, authorities in the south China city said Monday.

The flight attendant from China Southern Airlines posted a microblog on August 29 with pictures of scratches on her body. She said she had been verbally abused and beaten by a male passenger on a flight from Hefei to Guangzhou.

That passenger may have been Fang Daguo, 41, a political commissar from the city's Yuexiu District Armed Forces Department.

The publicity department of Yuexiu District said on August 31 that it was Fang's relative, not Fang, who had gotten into a physical altercation with the flight attendant. Both sides privately settled the case after Fang apologized to the flight attendant, the department said.

The flight attendant has not been fired by the company, but is resting at home, China Southern Airlines said Monday.
