Shanghai (CNS) -- Despite weakened demand by major diamond consuming countries in the first half of this year, China's general trading in diamonds maintained a steady growth.
The Shanghai Diamond Exchange (SDE), the only diamond exchange in China, saw general trading hit US$1.94 billion yuan, up 2.1 percent over last year, according to the Joint Management Office of the Shanghai Diamond Exchange on Tuesday.
Diamond exports reached US$322 million, with a year-on-year growth of 68 percent. Destinations included Hong Kong, Belgium, Israel and the US.
The steady growth of the Chinese diamond market is mainly due to enhanced trading functions with neighboring markets by the SDE, said the management office.
