Guangzhou (CNS) -- Four ancient brick tombs have been cleared at a renovation site in the Guangzhou Zoo, the local Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology said on Thursday.
The tombs were reportedly built during the Eastern Han, the Southern, the Sui and the Ming Dynasties. The Eastern Han tomb is one of the best preserved in the area, measuring 9.74 meters long and 7.13 meters wide, with an internal area of nearly 30 square meters, said the institute.
Elaborate burial rites dominated high society during the Eastern Han, so a large number of objects were found in the tomb, most of it pottery, said Yi Xibing, an archeologist from the institute.
