Travel plans to Japan plummet for Golden Week

Fuzhou (CNS) – Many Chinese tourists have cancelled trips to Japan for the National Day holiday, according to major travel agencies in Fuzhou, Fujian Province.

We have stopped organizing tours to Japan for the holiday, a manager at the Fujian Tourism Company said.

Most tourists have cancelled because of anti-Japanese emotion and worries over safety, said Zheng Binbin of the Fujian Kanghui Tourism Agency.

Tourism largely depends on the political environment and the tension between China and Japan has cast a shadow over the market, said Zhou Xiaoming, a manager at China Travel Service Fujian.

This year South Korea has overtaken Japan as a holiday destination for many Chinese tourists during the Golden Week, Zheng added.
