Zhengzhou (CNS) – Japanese athletes have performed quite well at the 9th Zhengzhou China International Shaolin Wushu Festival, according to the organizer on Tuesday.

Seventeen Japanese athletes participated in 15 categories and won 24 medals, including 2 gold, 10 silver and 12 copper medals as of Tuesday evening, he said.

Because of the Diaoyu Islands issue, the journey to the event was not as smooth as it was in the past, and relatives of the athletes feared the trip might be affected, said the leader of the Japanese team.

But thanks to good communication, things have been fine, he added.

The ongoing festival in Henan Province has attracted more than 1,500 kung fu masters from 73 countries and regions.
