Chengdu (CNS) -- Sixteen panda lovers are competing for three spots at the 2012 Global Pambassador finals which kicked off in Chengdu on Sunday.
The contestants will take part in a five-day training course in panda care at the Chengdu Panda Base, then camp for another five days at the Longxi-Hongkou National Nature Reserve to observe the animals in their natural habitat. The final selection process will take place on November 16.
Each of the winners, or "Pambassadors," will receive a stipend of US$20,000 to help them carry out plans for endangered animal protection over the following year.
The contestants come from eight countries and regions, and most are here for the first time.
