Chengdu (CNS) –– The three-month old "Olympic Panda" named "Oreo" made its first public appearance at the Chengdu Panda Base on Monday afternoon.
Rebecca, an American contestant in the 2012 Global Pambassador event who recommended the name "Oreo", was there to greet the cub. "Oreo" means beautiful in Greek, she said.
The panda was born on July 28, the first day of the 2012 London Olympics. On October 19, the organizing committee of the program "Global Search for Chengdu Pambassador 2012" invited global netizens to name the cub on Facebook, which aroused millions of followers. "Oreo" topped the list of 16 names selected by contestants among 8,000 names.
Oreo will reportedly be sent to Panda Valley in Dujiangyan, a city under the administration of Chengdu, after it grows up.
