Beijing (CNS) -- PetroChina Company has ranked 70th on the 2011 Global Innovation 1000, an annual study of spending on research and development (R&D) released Wednesday by consulting firm Booz & Company.
PetroChina, which spent nearly US$2.05 billion on R&D in 2011, is the first Chinese company to rank among the top 100 on the list.
A total of 47 Chinese companies are on the list, 32 more than in 2008. 13 Chinese companies earned rankings for the first time, including the China National Chemical Engineering Corporation, China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, Huayu Automotive Systems Corporation, NetEase Inc. and Perfect World Company.
Chinese companies are paying more attention to R&D in their strategic development, the study concluded. Total R&D spending by the Chinese companies on the list hit US$14.8 billion, 34.5 percent more than in 2010, and far ahead of the average growth of 9.6 percent worldwide.
Booz & Company was established in Chicago in 1914 and has 58 offices around the world. It is one of the top four strategic consulting companies in the world, along with McKinsey & Company, Boston Consulting Group and Bain & Company.
