Doha (CNS) -- Developed countries should take the main responsibility for the greenhouse effect and make some room for developing countries, Su Wei, China's chief negotiator on climate change, said on Sunday.

Su made the remarks ahead of the 2012 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Doha, Qatar, which began today and lasts until Dec. 7.

Su told reporters that developed countries have emitted greenhouse gases without restrictions in the past 200 years of industrialization, which has played a main role in climate change.

The developed countries have promised to pay billions of dollars to help developing countries adapt to the harmful effects of climate change but they haven't fulfilled it, Su said.

They need to give more specific information about funding other countries' climate-related studies and projects, he added.
