China's economy may grow 8 percent in 2013: expert  

林毅夫：2013年中国经济增长率会维持在8%左右

北京大学国家发展研究院名誉院长、前世界银行首席经济学家林毅夫9日在北京表示，中国第四季度的经济增长率会回暖复苏，2013年整体上会维持在8%左右甚至更高。

Beijing (CNS) -- China's annual economic growth could be around 8 percent or even higher in 2013 after a revival in the fourth quarter, an expert said on Sunday.

Justin Yifu Lin, former World Bank chief economist and honorary president of the National School of Development at Peking University, made the remarks during a public lecture held by the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce.

Lin discussed the weak forces behind China's economic growth, saying that exports remained low due to the European debt crisis and that the effects of an active financial policy is disappearing. What's more, the government's control of the property market against inflation will definitely curb investment demand, he said.

China's economy has grown at a slow rate for seven consecutive quarters, but the slow pace is periodic, not structural, Lin said, adding that China has better financial conditions than foreign countries.
