Haikou (CNS) -- The scrutiny committee set up by the Red Cross Society of China (RCSC) is a move toward transformation and renewed credibility, an expert said during an exclusive interview Tuesday.
Chi Fulin, head of the Hainan-based China Institute for Reform and Development, has been chosen as chairman of the RCSC's new committee to supervise the collection and management of donations. He told reporters from chinanews.com that China's Red Cross needs to adapt to the modern age and the public's demands for humanitarian issues.
The RCSC, representing other social organizations in China, needs to strengthen public oversight as well as satisfy expectations for greater transparency, Chi said.
The RCSC seeking to rebuild its credibility could also be interpreted as an important signal for the transformation of a wider range of social organizations, he said.
Once the committee fulfills its duties, it will set an example, he added.
