Beijing (CNS) -- Passengers who plan to travel on the first day of the Spring Festival holiday can purchase railway tickets via Internet and telephone starting today, according to the Ministry of Railways. Shops and railway stations will begin selling the tickets on Wednesday.
During this year's Spring Festival travel peak from Jan. 26 to March 6, nearly 225 million passengers are expected to travel, a year-on-year growth of 4.6 percent. An average 5.61 million people are expected to travel each day.
Passenger flow will be relatively flat before the Lunar New Year, mainly in Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Hangzhou, the ministry said. After the Lunar New Year, Chengdu, Chongqing, Wuhan, Nanchang and Hunan will see the biggest traveler numbers.
In Beijing, 75 additional temporary passenger trains will be added to ease the pressure, according to the local railway bureau.
