上海化学品船违法排放污染物致部分水域污染事件,目前水面油污已基本清除。上海金山区政府13日发布最新消息,23名因吸入刺激性气味入院的居民仍有5人留院观察。
Shanghai (CNS) -- Five victims of a petrochemical leak in Shanghai's Jueshi Port remain hospitalized, according to the local government on Sunday.
The incident that occurred Thursday put 23 residents in the hospital, mostly for inhalation of dangerous petrochemicals. The five still in the hospital are all in stable condition, the Jinshan District government said.
The local government said the pollutants, which were mostly benzene compounds such as styrene, leaked from an illegally installed valve which was not fully shut off during the loading of a cargo boat.
The leak led to the suspension of the water supply used by the Maogang Water Plant. Fire engines were arranged to deliver drinking water to local citizens and the supply of bottled water at local markets is said to be sufficient.
Filter chambers and pipe networks have been flushed to remove the smell of chemicals, water authorities said. A total of 69 vessels have been sent to clean up the polluted port.
