Shijiazhuang (CNS) -- Archaeologists have unearthed a large and rare ancient tomb in Quyang County of Hebei province, the local institute of cultural relics and archaeology said Wednesday.

The tombstone is missing an epitaph so its owner is unknown, but it dates back to sometime between the late Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907) and the Five Dynasties (AD 907-960), the institute said.

It measures 66 meters from north to south and has 12 inner-connected caves, a complicated structure that makes the tomb a rarity in China, according to experts.

Xie Fei, head of the institute, said that relics found inside included a large amount of porcelain, jade and colorful murals, but that the tomb had been robbed many times.

Xie also said that a conference had been held to seek advice from experts about investigating the tomb and nearby areas.
