Beijing (CNS) -- Snowfall across most of northern China over the weekend had grounded 118 flights at the Beijing Capital International Airport as of 5 p.m. Sunday.
The snow started early Sunday morning and lasted till 1 p.m., becoming as much as 4 centimeters deep in places, said the airport, which began clearing the ice and snow at 6 a.m.
Stranded passengers were seen in the waiting hall watching a large digital screen that showed workers removing ice from runways. The latest weather and traffic information was broadcast every five minutes.
Sufficient buses and taxis have been arranged to help passengers leave, according to the airport.
