Yingjiang (CNS) -- Yunnan has adopted emergency measures to maintain peace and security along China's border with Myanmar, according to the border security headquarters on Sunday.
The Myanmar government has announced a unilateral cease-fire, saying that government troops would stop military offensives in the Lajayan area by 6 a.m. Saturday. Yet the conflict was still underway as of Sunday morning, sources said.
The headquarters told reporters that it had set up four areas to provide humanitarian assistance, including drinking water and electrical supplies.
Yang Rong, deputy director of the local health bureau, said five ambulances and 21 doctors had arrived at the border, and that infectious diseases were being monitored at all local hospitals. Tents, cooking oil and rice have been prepared in advance, he added.
The fighting in Myanmar since June 2011 has resulted in bombs landing on the Chinese side, prompting China to take emergency action.
