Nanchang (CNS) -- A teacher in Jiangxi province who was caught forcing students to kneel on the ground has been suspended pending further investigation, the local publicity department said last night.
A photo posted yesterday evening showed dozens of students at Fenkeng Middle School, located in Jiangxi's Yudu county, on the playground kneeling before a man standing with his hands behind his back.
The photo was soon forwarded on Sina Weibo, where it has stirred widespread public outrage.
Just before midnight, Zhang Wenbin, vice director of the local publicity department, confirmed on his real-name microblog that a teacher at the school had in fact been punishing pupils by making them kneel.
Zhang also said the teacher had been suspended and that the local education department was investigating the issue.
