Washington (CNS) -- Growth in China is expected to reach 8.2 percent in 2013, up from 7.8 percent in 2012, according to an updated report released by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Wednesday.

China's pace of growth is set to increase to 8.2 percent this year and 8.5 percent in 2014, the same as forecast last October, the IMF said in the revised World Economic Outlook, its biannual flagship report.

It also noted that to ensure sustained rapid growth, China must continue its progress in market-oriented structural reforms and rebalance the economy toward private consumption.

The IMF lowered its global growth forecast for 2013 and 2014 by one-tenth of a percentage point to 3.5 percent and 4.1 percent respectively.

The updated report is more optimistic about the U.S. economy, but also warned that the U.S. should avoid sharp cuts in the short term.
