Changsha (CNS) -- Authorities in central China's Hunan province said Tuesday that they are investigating a candidate who claims to have paid for votes during the election of deputies to the provincial People's Congress.
Huang Yubiao, 64, announced online earlier this month that he had paid about 320,000 yuan (51,400 U.S. dollars) to 320 voters ahead of the election last December. Despite the payments, Huang failed to be elected.
Huang is a board chairman of a private building material enterprise in Guangdong province, and widely reported to be a patron of charity. He was born in Shaodong county of Hunan's Shaoyang city.
