Chengdu (CNS) -- The first captive-bred giant panda released into the wild in China is in good condition, according to the Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda on Tuesday.

We have monitored "Tao Tao" for the past three months, and his ability to find food and water and carry out other activities appear normal, the center said at a press conference.

"Tao Tao" has remained active, judging by data from his location trackers and sensors, and the places where he rests are well chosen to avoid danger, said the center, which is located in Wolong, Sichuan province.

All this shows that he has acclimatized to the wild, the center said, but he will face greater challenges from wild pandas.

"Tao Tao" was released into the Liziping Nature Reserve on October 11 last year after undergoing three stages of training.

The center said that a panda in the second stage of training will also be selected and released into the wild, and that two or three pandas will be added to the training program this year.
