Beijing (CNS) -- The Outline for National Tourism and Leisure issued by the China National Tourism Administration sets a target of having a paid vacation system in place nationwide by 2020, officials said at a press conference Monday.
Zhu Shanzhong, deputy director of the administration, said the outline aims to meet increasing demand for tourism and leisure while promoting the development of the industry. China has seen a dramatic rise in outbound and inbound travel in the past several years, he added.
"The emphasis on leisure sectors also conforms to the strategic focus of promoting domestic demand and expanding employment," Zhu said.
Wang Wei, an official from the National Development and Reform Commission, said the outline encourages flexible vacation arrangements for workers and states clearly that almost all workers in China will enjoy paid leave by 2020.
Wang pointed out other highlights of the outline, including "green tourism," the reduction of entrance fees at scenic spots and the improvement of leisure infrastructure and accessibility.
