Hangzhou vows to tackle sewage discharge in West Lake

27日，浙江杭州西湖内污水直排问题曝光后，28日下午，杭州市西湖风景区管委会、杭州市水务集团、杭州市城市管理委员会等部门人员齐聚西湖杨公堤附近，商讨治理污水方案，欲尽快还西湖景区清水绿草。

Hangzhou (CNS) -- The government of Hangzhou in Zhejiang province vowed Thursday to tackle the sewage discharge in West Lake after it was reported the day before.

"No matter how hard it will be, we will tackle it," said Zhou Weidong, deputy manager of the production management department at Hangzhou Water Holding Group.

Zhou told reporters that sewage discharged around scenic areas comes from hotels and guesthouses, with development of the tourism industry outpacing that of scenic spots. The pollution will become worse during the coming tourist season, he added.

Zhou also said no quick solution can be reached as it is a part of the whole sewage disposal system in the West Lake area. And there is a lot of traffic along Yang Gong causeway, which add to the difficulties, he said.

Several officials from the West Lake scenic area management committee, the water company and the city management committee came to examine the pipe that discharged the untreated sewage and discussed possibilities for a solution.
