Beijing (CNS) -- Beijing's total online shopping revenue in 2012 doubled to 59.68 billion yuan, according to the Beijing Administration for Industry and Commerce.

Huang Xiaowen, deputy director of the administration, revealed the figures ahead of March 15, or World Consumer Right's Day. He said total online shopping revenue accounted for 7.7 percent of the city's retail sales, and that the increasing pace of the revenue was higher than 66.2 percent, the national rate of increase.

The administration handled 28,245 complaints related to online purchases last year, accounting for more than half of the total purchase complaints, Huang said.

Fierce competition has led to lagging logistics services, unilateral cancellation of orders and false marketing among online merchants, he added.

The administration has called on online businesses to operate honestly and properly handle consumer complaints without delay.
