“太旱了,已经有四五个月没有降水,水窖去年储蓄的生活用水所剩无几,很多村民到处找水。”
Lanzhou (CNS) -- A total of 701,000 people in Gansu province don't have adequate drinking water due to the continuing drought in the region, according to the provincial department of civil affairs in Gansu on Wednesday.
Statistics released by the department show that the number of drought-affected people has reached 3.8 million, and 919,000 people are in dire need of assistance.
The drought has affected more than 490,600 hectares of farmland in the province, according to the department.
The provincial meteorological department in Gansu predicts that the drought will become more severe in March.
The drought is the result of a lack of effective rainfall in the province since the autumn of 2012.
