由于违法用地、违法建设现象日益严重,目前在北京中心城区的周边已经形成一圈规模相当的脏乱差地区。
Beijing (CNS) -- A special campaign aimed at improving the city environment by demolishing illegal buildings in Beijing was launched on Thursday, according to the Beijing Municipal Commission of Urban Planning.
Due to a lack of management, many illegal buildings have been constructed on traditional homestead sites in the old town and countryside of Beijing, Wang Wei, deputy director of the commission, said at a press conference on Thursday.
Statistics show that these illegal buildings can be found in 173 of 221 low-density residential areas in Beijing.
The illegal construction has put huge pressure on both the environment and residents of the capital city, Wang said.
Starting Thursday, a month-long demolition campaign will help gradually bring down the illegal buildings in Beijing.
A special office has been set up to carry out the work, Wang added.
