Automatic earthquake quick-report service launched   

中国即将多渠道向全社会实时发布地震速报

记者30日从中国地震局获悉，该局4月1日起正式提供自动地震速报服务，届时，中国地震台网将通过手机、网站、微博、移动客户端等渠道，向全社会实时发布自动地震速报信息。

Beijing (Ecns) - The China Seismological Bureau will provide an automatic earthquake quick-report service starting on April 1, the bureau said on Saturday.

The China Earthquake Network, under the bureau, will release real-time earthquake information automatically through channels such as cell phones, websites, microblogs and mobile clients.

The quick earthquake report, as the main function of the website, will release earthquake parameters, including epicenter location, magnitude and focal depth. It achieves earthquake location and magnitude determination rapidly through automatic computer processing of real-time monitoring data from the seismic network. The automatic report can be completed in two minutes, while the manual one takes about 10 minutes.

At present, the automatic quick report is only available for magnitude-3 earthquakes in Beijing and in capital cities, magnitude-4 in Central and Eastern China, magnitude-5 in Western China, magnitude-6 in China's neighboring areas, and worldwide earthquakes at magnitude 7, according to Pan Huaiwen, from the China Earthquake Network.

After an automatic report is released in the wake of a disaster, the earthquake's exact data will be checked and modified manually.
