San Francisco (CNS) -- The Chinese Consulate General in San Francisco awarded 20 scholarships each worth $6,000 to self-funded Chinese doctoral students on Friday.
The 20 students are majors in mathematics, biology, chemistry, electronic science and technology, mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, material science, psychology, and Chinese language and literature.
The students have published many high quality papers in top international journals, said Gong Peng, professor at the University of California, Berkeley, and a member of the evaluation committee.
Among them, nine students are from Berkeley, eight are from Stanford University, and the other three are from UC Davis, the University of Washington and Washington State University.
The scholarship was launched in 2003 and more than 4,000 students have since received it. About 120 students in the San Francisco consular district have won the award.
