Beijing (CNS) -- A series of measures aimed at combating the spread of bird flu has been launched across China, according to the Ministry of Agriculture on Sunday.
The ministry issued an emergency monitoring plan for the H7N9 virus and its transmission on Sunday, according to which, an overall epidemic screening and virus surveillance will kick in across the country.
The ministry also issued a statement last Thursday urging related departments to use intervention and control measures to control the epidemic among animals.
Poultry trading activities have been suspended in Shanghai, and all of the live poultry markets in the city have been shut down.
Three major live poultry markets in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, were also suspended on Saturday.
China's National Avian Influenza Reference Laboratory is now doing detection and analysis work on 11,229 samples gathered from different regions across the country.
The results will be reported to related departments in China and other international organizations.
