Ecns - A recent slump in gold prices has triggered a mainlander buying spree of gold jewelry in Hong Kong, the Sing Tao Daily (Hong Kong) has reported.
Many mainlanders have rushed to Hong Kong with friends and relatives to buy gold for their own use or for gains from a potential surge in value.
Some have expressed confidence in a possible increase in value in the foreseeable future.
"As a rare metal, the price of gold will certainly rise again someday," said a Guangzhou man surnamed Hu.
A spokesman for Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group Limited pointed out that selling gold remains the pillar of their business. Even after gold prices nosedived, customers were still buying gold despite worries of an extended price slump, he added.
