New York (CNS) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan have been named among Time Magazine's 100 most influential people in the world.
The list is divided into five groups: titans, leaders, artists, pioneers and icons.
President Xi was named as one of the most influential leaders. Former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger wrote that the role of Xi Jinping is central as China embarks on a period of renewal.
"In foreign policy he has posed a key question: Can two great, partially competitive countries substitute cooperation for conflict? The answers of both sides will determine the world's future. Based on my meetings with Xi, his answer will be both thoughtful and forceful," he said.
China's first lady Peng Liyuan is on the list of the top global icons along with the first lady of the United States Michelle Obama, Princess Kate Middleton of the United Kingdom and US pop star Beyoncé.
During Xi's first presidential trip abroad in March, Peng charmed Russia and Africa, and has brought glamour to "Made in China" by wearing domestic labels on her tour, Time Magazine said.
Also listed are Chinese tennis player Li Na, tech incubator Kai-Fu Lee, and Ren Zhengfei, CEO of the Chinese telecom giant Huawei.
This is the tenth consecutive year for the magazine to select the 100 most influential people in the world.
