(CNS) -- A luxury apartment in New York owned by Chen Chih-chung, son of former leader of Taiwan Chen Shui-bian, was auctioned for $1.5 million on Tuesday, according to the US-based Worldjournal.com.
It was reported that around 50 people participated in the auction, many of them Taiwanese Americans. Only seven to eight were involved in active bidding, the report said.
Stella Tsang, a Chinese American, and her husband won the auction. Tsang said they are not multi-millionaires but only "up middle class" through hard work. Tsang insisted that they didn't buy the apartment as an investment, according to the report.
The couple are in the medical profession, it said.
The 109-square-meter apartment is in Chelsea, in the heart of Manhattan, and comes with a 24-hour doorman, private parking and fitness center.
