中国现存最完整、建筑规模最大的清代皇家戏楼——德和园大戏楼，历经18个月的封闭修缮，25日正式对外开放。专家称，这是1949年以来规模最大、最科学严谨的一次修缮，恢复了光绪时期最好面貌。

Beijing (CNS) --The Grand Theater Building in the Dehe Yuan (Garden of Virtue and Harmony) was open to the public on Thursday, following an extensive restoration.

Situated in the Summer Palace, it was the biggest theater in operation during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912), and comprises a three-story stage and two-story building for dressing rooms and makeup.

Construction of Dehe Yuan began in the 17th year of Emperor Guangxu's reign (1891), after which it witnessed the summit of Peking Opera.

Its restoration, the biggest since 1949, covers an area of 4,000 square meters.

With most of its historic characteristics preserved, the Grand Theater can now present the same historic scene that imperial families saw during operas in the Qing Dynasty.

An exhibit featuring Empress Dowager Tzu-hsi (1835-1908) and Peking Opera cultural relics was opened on the same day at the Dehe Yuan.
