“中国是国际减灾运动的重要角色。”联合国秘书长减灾事务特别代表、联合国国际减灾战略秘书长玛格瑞特·瓦尔斯特伦8日在成都赞赏中国应对强地震等重特大自然灾害方面的措施,称四川省在灾后重建及国际减灾运动中“积累了能够让国际社会受益的经验”。
Chengdu (CNS) -- China's experience in disaster relief and rebuilding can offer success stories for other countries around the world, according to Margareta Wahlström, special representative of the secretary-general for Disaster Risk Reduction at the UN.
Wahlström made the remarks at a forum on disaster rehabilitation and international disaster reduction held in Chengdu on Wednesday. The forum brought together experts and policy makers from several international and regional organizations, including the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction, UN Interagency Rehabilitation Program, and the Asian Disaster Reduction Center.
China plays an important role in international disaster reduction efforts. This year marks the fifth anniversary of the Wenchuan earthquake, and China's capacity to combat natural disasters has improved, Wahlström said.
After the Lushan earthquake, the local government acted swiftly in rescue and relief efforts. The provincial government of Sichuan has demonstrated its ability to work in collaboration, she said.
China's central government has also been playing a key role in rescue and relief work in the wake of the disaster, Wahlström added.
