记者9日从云南省社科院获悉,中国-南亚国家智库论坛将于6月6日-7日在昆明举行。
Kunming (CNS) -- The "China-South Asian Countries Think Tank Forum" will be held from June 6 to 7 in Kunming, Yunnan province, according to the Yunnan Academy of Social Sciences on Thursday.
The forum intends to promote communication and understanding between people from both sides through cultural exchanges.
China and South Asian countries have long enjoyed a sound trade relationship, said Ren Jia, director of the Yunnan Academy of Social Sciences. Total trade volume between the two sides jumped from 5.7 billion US dollars in 2000 to 93 billion US dollars in 2012.
However, people-to-people exchange has been limited, which leads to insufficient understanding between the two sides, Ren added.
The think tank forum is expected to promote the establishment of dialogue and cooperation networks between China and countries of South Asia, which can further boost cooperation in various fields such as the economy, society and culture, said Guo Huiyan, an associate researcher at the Yunnan Academy of Social Sciences.
More than a hundred experts from several institutes, including the Institute for Chinese Studies New Delhi and the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies, will share insights into topics of regional economic integration, regional connectivity, and international people-to-people exchange.
