Hong Kong (CNS) — A giant inflatable floating duck has collapsed in Hong Kong's Victoria Harbour.

The duck created by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman was found lying on its side Tuesday night and was completely flat by Wednesday.

The incident has sparked debate on Weibo, China's Twitter-like service.

Netizens summed up the possible "10 reasons" behind the deflation, which include "culture shock," "overwork" and "bird flu infection."

Exhibition organizers say the duck was due to be towed to a shipyard for a check-up.

The yellow sculpture has been transported around the globe since 2007, visiting cities such as Sydney, Sao Paulo and Amsterdam.

It arrived in Hong Kong's Victoria Harbour on May 2 and was due to stay until June 9.

Its deflation has caused disappointment in the city, where the duck had become a popular tourist attraction.

"If everything goes fine we can inflate it as soon as possible and the public can appreciate it again," a spokesman for the Harbour City shopping center said on Wednesday.

Mr Hofman has previously warned that the duck would need to be deflated if it faced high winds and waves.
