Int'l AIDS Candlelight Memorial marked in Beijing   

中华红丝带基金举行第30个国际艾滋病烛光纪念日活动

2013年5月19日是第30个国际艾滋病烛光纪念日。由中国工商联指导，中华红丝带基金、联合国艾滋病规划署等共同主办的主题为“用心点燃 用爱传递—2013年国际艾滋病烛光纪念日活动”今天在北京举行。

Beijing (Ecns) – The China Red Ribbon Foundation (CRRF) held an activity Sunday in Beijing to mark the 30th International AIDS Candlelight Memorial.

May 19 is a meaningful day for more than 30 million people who died of AIDS and the 34 million AIDs patients and HIV carriers, said Hong Qi, CRRF deputy director and president of China Minsheng Bank.

The CRRF invited people from all walks of life to attend the memorial in a call for continuous efforts to fight against AIDs, he added.

UNAIDS China Officer Nana Taona Kuo also commended China's achievements in expanding AIDs prevention. She said that in 2012, over 100 million people in China underwent HIV testing, and the number of people receiving antiretroviral treatment has been increasing in the past 10 years, reaching 160,000 persons so far.

China's red ribbon star volunteer team was founded at the event, under the leadership of famous artist Hou Yaohua.

Since 1983, the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial has taken place every third Sunday in May. It serves as a community mobilization campaign to raise consciousness about HIV and AIDS.
