(ECNS) — Toll-free roads will account for about 97 percent of the country's total road mileage in the future, according to Dai Dongchang, chief planner with the Ministry of Transport.
Road tolling policies have played a huge role in expediting the boom in China's road transport, Dai said at a press briefing Thursday for the National Road Network Planning (2013-2030), held by the Information Office of the State Council.
The Ministry of Transport has been coordinating with other departments to improve road tolling policies since they were first introduced, Dai said.
In recent years, a series of special campaigns have been launched to revise laws and regulations pertaining to toll road permits and management of toll roads, he added.
Road transport in China will be comprised of two major networks: one that mainly consists of low-charge but highly efficient expressways, and the other made up of toll-free common roads, said Dai.
The ministry will continue to adjust and improve policies so as to better boost transport development in the country, he said.
