Jiyuan (ECNS) -- A society aimed at exploring new connotations of the "Foolish Old Man," a mythological character cited by former Chairman Mao Zedong, was established in Jiyuan, Henan province, on Tuesday.
With Mao's grandson Mao Xinyu as an honorable president, it marked the 68th anniversary of Chairman Mao's writings about the legendary figure who, through sheer force of will, removed mountains that spoiled his view.
Li Changduo, president of the society, said during the inauguration that the society provides a platform to promote the persistence of the Foolish Old Man and will play an important role in re-evaluating him in a modern context.
According to the legend, the Foolish Old Man was nearly 90 years old and lived behind two mountains, which he was determined to remove despite doubts from his family and others.
