(ECNS) -- Wing Chun, together with favorite Hong Kong foods such as pineapple bread, milk tea and egg tarts, may be listed as the first batch of the region's intangible cultural heritage.
A four-month solicitation of public opinion about the items to be listed was launched Thursday.
A survey team at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology conducted extensive research on more than 700 intangible cultural cases over the past three years and compiled the first inventory, which includes five categories of 477 items.
The five categories are: verbal traditions and their forms, performing arts, social practices and festivals, traditional handicrafts, and practice about the natural world and universe.
Apart from the bread and milk tea, other intangible cultural items like the Hakka dialect, the lion dance, the Wing Chun fist and the Cheung Chau Bun Festival are also on the draft list.
The first list for Hong Kong will be published early next year.
